TechGirls Program for Female Tech 2022 Application Update
Eligible candidates are now
invited to submit their applications for the TechGirls Program for Female Tech.
This esteemed program, fully funded by TechGirls, offers a comprehensive scholarship
opportunity.
About the Program
Since 2012, TechGirls has
successfully trained and mentored a total of 528 teenage girls between the ages
of 15 and 17.
This impactful initiative
initially focused on providing support to young girls from Algeria, Egypt,
Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Tunisia, and Yemen,
located in the Middle Eastern and North African regions.
By granting them access to
valuable resources and opportunities, TechGirls empowers and fosters the growth
of the next generation of female leaders in the fields of Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
This program aims to bridge the
gender gap and create a supportive network for aspiring young women, enabling
them to pursue and achieve their goals in these critical areas of expertise.
Aim and Benefits of TechGirls Program
The TechGirls program includes coverage for the following expenses:
1. Travel: Roundtrip international airfare from the participant's home country to the United States.
2. Accommodation: Provision of housing throughout the program duration.
3. Lodging: Shared accommodation in double occupancy hotel or dormitory settings.
4. Meals: Full provision of meals during the program, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Requirements for TechGirls Program
The TechGirls Program has
specific eligibility requirements. Candidates who can apply must meet the
following criteria:
1. Nationality and Residence:
Applicants must be citizens of and currently living in one of the eligible
countries/territories. The eligible regions include:
a) Sub-Saharan Africa (AF): Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa.
b) East Asia and Pacific (EAP): Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Mongolia,
Taiwan, and Vietnam.
c) Middle East and North Africa (NEA): Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon,
Morocco, Palestinian Territories, and Tunisia.
d) South and Central Asia (SCA): Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan,
Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
e) Western Hemisphere (WHA): Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica,
Honduras, and Suriname.
f) Europe and Eurasia (EUR): Albania, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo,
Montenegro, and Turkey.
g) United States of America.
2. Age Requirement: To be eligible for the exchange program, applicants must fall within the age bracket of 15 to 17 years at the commencement of the exchange, which specifically begins on July 8th, 2023.
This implies that candidates must have been born
between July 9, 2005, and July 8, 2008, inclusive.
3. Academic Interest: Applicants
should have demonstrated advanced skills and a genuine interest in science, technology,
engineering, and/or math (STEM) subjects during their academic studies.
4. STEM Career Aspirations:
Candidates should intend to pursue higher education and/or careers in STEM,
with a particular focus on technology.
5. English Language Proficiency:
Strong English language skills at an advanced intermediate level are required.
6. Personal Qualities: Applicants
should exhibit maturity, flexibility, and open-mindedness.
7. Educational Commitment:
Candidates must commit to attending at least one additional semester of
secondary school upon their return to their home country.
8. Community-Based Project:
Applicants must be committed to completing a community-based project upon their
return home.
9. Visa Eligibility: Candidates
must meet the eligibility requirements for a U.S. J-1 visa. U.S. citizens are
not eligible for the J-1 visa.
10. Citizenship and Residence: Eligible candidates must be citizens and current residents of the participating countries/territories.
Third country nationals permanently residing in an
eligible country should contact the program administrators to determine their
eligibility before applying.
11. Preference for First-Time Travelers: Priority will be given to applicants who have limited or no prior experience in the United States.
Applicants who have participated
in any other ECA exchange program and have traveled to the United States within
the preceding three years are ineligible to apply for the current program.
